If you’re browsing my website then you’re probably here to either learn about children’s book publishing, or maybe researching the illustration process for your books. But what you may not know is that I also work on other projects, and for the past couple of years I have been compiling a list of strange but true ghost stories to feature in a book that I’m writing for adults.
I have lots of change going on in my life at the moment – not only am I going to be setting up a new studio, and moving my entire business away, but I’m also going to be focusing more on my interests - the paranormal being a significant one.
So, why am I writing a blog post about British Ghost stories? Simple! I want to hear yours!
I’m fascinated by anything that falls into the category of the ‘paranormal’, and whilst I keep a very open mind, I always take a scientific and skeptical approach towards any stories that I decide to share. If I’m doubtful about any particular story, or the credibility of the person that’s sharing it, I won’t include the story.
In the early 2000’s I used to run ‘live’ campfire events during the lead up to Halloween – I’d offer tickets and employ a professional story teller to help set the seen around an open campfire, and later everyone would share their own true tales. In part, this helped to inspire my desire to write a book on the subject.
I’ve also had quite a number of stories from my readers over the past couple of years – some of them are really very good, and all told to me by very down to earth people who have nothing to benefit from making up stories.
I do however need to make an apology to several of you. Whilst working on a couple of your stories, I had a major email issue that resulted in the loss of some stories, and the means to contact you. If I was working on your story and suddenly vanished months and months ago – I’m sorry. Please contact me via my new website and I will be more than happy to pick up where we left off.
Want to share your story with me?
For a chance to be included in my future book, I’d love to hear of any ghostly experiences that you have encountered personally. Simply send me an email, with a brief outline of your experience, either written or a voice recording, and I will be in touch (please include a phone number along with your email).
A couple of points to note:
1) The experience must have happened to you, or a very close relative/friend.
2) The book is about ‘British’ ghost stories – so your encounter must take place within these shores.
3) I don’t pay for stories – your reward will be seeing your story in print if it is used.
4) The story must not be in print anywhere else.
5) Your experience needs to a have a little meat on the bone so to speak. Not to sound ungrateful, but I need to be able to wrist at least a few pages around it, so a story that’s no more than a strange sound, or something seen out of the corner of your eye probably wouldn’t be included.
6) Lastly, this project is taking me some time! So if you’re reading this a long time after the blog post was added, please still contact me as I will still be working on the book, and possible follow-ups too!
