You may find this somewhat of an unusual BLOG for a website that details my illustrative work – but I wanted to share with you a little about my studio. Now, please bear with me, as for now this article is TEXT only, apart from a few pictured curios – but I will be sharing images of my new studio, and possibly include a guided tour in the future (probably 2025/26) as I’m still hunting out a new (old) building to work from. Please check back again in the future as I look forward to adding lots of images as I obtain them.
For years, I’ve been collecting strange objects to decorate my studio with. It’s become a bit of an obsession – and makes for an interesting talking point, especially when a client is discussing their illustration requirements before noticing a human skull staring back at them from the shadows….
Spooky Friends that Keep me Company in my Studio...
I guess the dark and morbid nature of some of what I collect isn’t for everyone – and I completely understand that, but for me it’s interesting, and aesthetically pleasing – and not something that should simply be disposed of.
But it’s not all dark. Looking around my studio you will find all manner of different, and interesting (at least to me) artifacts.
I have a particular interest in ephemera, published illustrations, vintage fireworks, and historically important items.
For example, on one shelf, you may find an authentic piece of the Titanic, sitting next to an original painting by the wonderful Raymond Briggs. Or the giant tooth of a Woolly Mammoth sitting next to a piece of the Hindenburg, or maybe a medically prepared human hand grasping on to a huge tooth from a Megalodon. I have lots of unusual things in my work space, and I try to add to my ever-growing collection as often as possible.
Megalodon Tooth
I buy all kinds of interesting things, so feel free to message me if you have something that you’re trying to sell. In particular, I buy the following:
Skulls (real ones), Vintage Fireworks, Interesting paperwork, Firework related sales bills, Brock’s Fireworks, Standard Fireworks, old diaries (with entries), published children’s book illustrations, work by Raymond Briggs, Axel Scheffler, Folkloric memorabilia, old magazines (Christmas editions), Vintage Halloween, Halloween postcards, Guy Fawkes, original Jack the Ripper Newspaper stories, Victorian paranormal / ghost related collectables, The Snowman, The Gruffalo...
Diary Detailing the sinking of the Titanic
The above is not an exhaustive list, but gives you an idea. Anything that I collect needs to be unique, historically important, or very rare.
Please check this page again in the future - I will be adding studio photos and videos sometime in 2025/26. And don't forget t contact me if you have something to sell!
